Carpet cleaning, repair and customisation services

At Tabriz Carpets, we do more than sell rugs. Our team also handles cleaning, hand washing and repair for both handmade and machine-made carpets. If your carpet looks dull, has stains or damage, or simply has not been washed properly for a long time, we can help bring it back to a fresher, more usable condition.

The method we use depends mainly on whether your carpet is handmade or machine-made, the fibres used and the size of the piece. Handmade Persian and oriental carpets are treated with gentle hand washing methods, while more robust machine-made rugs can be cleaned with slightly different approaches that still respect the material.

Handmade or machine-made, why it matters for cleaning

Different carpets cannot be cleaned in exactly the same way. Handmade Persian and oriental rugs, especially wool and silk pieces, need more controlled washing so that the colours and fibres stay safe. Machine made carpets are usually more uniform and can handle a different style of cleaning.

Handmade carpets

For handmade carpets, we focus on:

  • Using hand washing and gentle, wool safe products

  • Testing for colour fastness before washing

  • Paying careful attention to fringes, edges and any older repairs

  • Controlling water, pressure and drying so that the carpet keeps its shape

This approach follows what many specialist Persian rug cleaners consider the safest method for fine rugs, which is full immersion hand washing with pH neutral, wool safe solutions.

Machine-made carpets

For machine-made carpets, we still treat each piece individually, but the cleaning method can be slightly more flexible. In general, we:

  • Check the fibre type, backing and construction

  • Choose a suitable wash method, which may be a controlled immersion wash or another appropriate system

  • Use cleaners that match the material, for example synthetic safe products for polypropylene or mixed fibres

  • Pay attention to size, weight and drying so the carpet comes back clean and ready to use

How we hand wash handmade carpets

We start by checking the carpet to understand its origin, weave, materials and condition. We also measure the size, because the amount of work and handling depends on how large and heavy the piece is.

Inspection and measurement
Dry dust removal

Before any water is used, we remove as much loose dust and grit from the pile as possible. This helps reduce the amount of dirt that needs to be washed out later and prevents particles from scratching the fibres during cleaning.

Colour and condition check

We look at the colours, backing and any older repairs to understand how the carpet is likely to react to water and cleaning. On sensitive pieces we may test a small, hidden area first so we can adjust the process if needed.

Soaking with soap and water

The carpet is then soaked with water and a suitable cleaning solution so that the fibres are fully wet. This soaking step helps loosen dirt that has settled deep in the pile and makes it easier to wash out stains and general soil.

Hand washing is more labour-intensive, but it is one of the safest ways to clean many fine carpets when it is done carefully. At Tabriz Carpets, we use a soap and water soaking process followed by hand washing and sun drying. The exact details depend on the carpet, but the general steps are:

Hand washing in the direction of the pile

After soaking, we wash the carpet by hand, working along the direction of the pile. We focus more attention on areas with heavier use or visible marks. The aim is to remove as much dirt as possible while respecting the structure of the rug.

Rinsing and water removal

Once the main wash is done, we rinse the carpet until the water runs clearer and the soap is properly removed. Excess water is then taken out in a controlled way so that the carpet is not twisted or stressed.

Drying under sunlight

We dry the carpet under direct sunlight, turning or repositioning it when needed so that it dries evenly. Sunlight helps the carpet dry faster and often brings the colours back to life, making the rug look brighter compared to when it was dull and dusty.

Final grooming and checks

When the carpet is dry, we groom the pile, straighten the fringes and carry out a final inspection. If we notice areas that may benefit from repair or reinforcement, we will highlight them and discuss the options with you before any extra work is done.

Cleaning machine made carpets

We check the face fibre (for example polypropylene, polyester, wool blend), the backing and the size of the carpet. Larger and heavier pieces may need slightly different handling than smaller rugs.

Assessment by material and size
Pre vacuum and preparation

Loose dust and debris are removed before wet cleaning. Spots and stains are checked and, where needed, treated with suitable pre cleaners.

Washing method suited to the rug

We look at the colours, backing and any older repairs to understand how the carpet is likely to react to water and cleaning. On sensitive pieces we may test a small, hidden area first so we can adjust the process if needed.

Soaking with soap and water

The carpet is then soaked with water and a suitable cleaning solution so that the fibres are fully wet. This soaking step helps loosen dirt that has settled deep in the pile and makes it easier to wash out stains and general soil.

Machine-made carpets are usually more resilient than handmade rugs, but they still benefit from proper washing instead of only vacuuming or quick surface sprays. At Tabriz Carpets, we also use a soak, wash, and sun-dry approach for machine-made pieces, adjusted to suit the fibres and backing.

Repair and customisation for damaged carpets

Cleaning is often a good time to fix small issues so they do not turn into bigger problems. We offer repair and customisation services for both handmade and machine made carpets.

Repair work
  • Fixing holes, burns and worn patches where possible

  • Re-stitching or securing loose edges

  • Repairing or replacing damaged fringe sections

  • Strengthening weak areas to slow further wear

Customisation work
  • Trimming and resizing carpets to better fit your space

  • Edge binding for cut-to-size carpets

  • Changing from fringe to a clean edge finish for a simpler look

  • Adding or recommending an underlay for extra comfort and grip

Some repairs are more suitable for certain types of carpets than others. After inspecting your rug, we will explain what is realistic so you can decide.

How to get a cleaning or repair quote

Machine made carpets are generally easier to look after than handmade rugs, but some simple habits will help them look better for longer.

Step 2: Receive an estimate

We will give you a rough price estimate for cleaning based on the type and size of the carpet, and a guide price for any visible repairs. For more complex work, a final quote may be confirmed after we see the rug in person.

Step 3: Drop off or arrange collection

You can bring the carpet to our Tampines showroom, or we can arrange collection within our service area. We will also share an estimated timeline together with the quote.

Step 1: Share photos and size

Send us clear photos of the carpet on WhatsApp, including any stains or damage, together with the approximate size (length and width). Let us know if the carpet is handmade or machine made, if you know.

Step 4: Cleaning, hand washing and repair

We carry out the agreed work, and contact you if we find anything unexpected that needs to be discussed.

Step 5: Final check and return

Once everything is done, we complete a final check and then arrange for you to collect the carpet or have it delivered back to your home.

When is it time for professional cleaning

Signs your carpet needs more than vacuuming:
  • Colours look dull even after regular vacuuming

  • There is a smell from pets, food or damp

  • You see stains that do not respond to gentle spot cleaning

  • The carpet feels heavy or dusty when you lift and tap it

For carpets in main living areas, a proper wash about once a year is a good general guide, whether they are handmade or machine made. Lower traffic rooms may need less frequent cleaning, but regular professional washing will still help your carpets age better.

Frequently asked questions

Q1 – Do you accept carpets that were not bought from Tabriz Carpets?

Yes. You can send carpets that you bought from us or carpets that you already have at home.

Q2 – Can all stains be removed?

Some stains can be reduced but not fully removed, especially if they have been on the carpet for a long time or if strong chemicals were used at home. We will be transparent about what is realistic after we see the carpet.

Q3 – Do you clean both handmade and machine-made carpets?

Yes. The method and handling differ depending on the type of carpet, fibres and condition. We will advise the safest option after inspection.

Q4 – How long does cleaning take?

Timing depends on the size, condition, and current workload, as well as whether any repair or customisation is needed. When you send photos and size, we will give an estimated timeline together with the quote. It can be from 5 to 14 days.
