Handmade Persian & Oriental Carpets in Singapore

This page is for our handmade carpets only, including Persian and oriental rugs from countries such as Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Each piece is knotted by hand, so no two carpets are exactly the same. They bring character, warmth and a sense of story into your home.

You will find carpets in different sizes, colours and levels of detail, from classic medallion designs to more tribal and village style patterns. Many pieces are available to view in our Tampines showroom if you would like to see them in person before you decide.

Handmade carpets from different regions

Different regions produce different looks and weaving styles. Here is a simple overview of the main types of handmade carpets you will find at Tabriz.

Persian (Iranian) carpets

Persian carpets are known for rich colours, balanced patterns and a strong sense of symmetry. Many pieces feature central medallions, floral motifs and detailed borders. They work well as statement rugs in living rooms and dining areas, especially if you like a classic, timeless look.

Pakistani carpets

Pakistani rugs often have a softer handle and a slightly more muted palette, with repeating motifs and elegant borders. They are a good choice if you prefer something refined but not too loud, suitable for living rooms, bedrooms and home offices.

Afghani and tribal carpets

Afghani and tribal style rugs tend to use bolder geometric patterns and deeper, earthy colours such as rust, navy and dark brown. These pieces add character to cosy living rooms, reading corners and spaces with a lot of wood or textured furniture.

When should you choose a handmade carpet

Both handmade and machine made carpets have their place in the home. The right choice depends on how you use the space, your budget and how long you plan to keep the rug.

Handmade carpets are ideal if you:
  • Want a unique piece that ages beautifully over time

  • Prefer richer, more traditional or tribal designs with depth

  • Are furnishing a space you do not plan to change often

  • Are comfortable with a slightly higher level of care

Machine made carpets may be better if you:
  • Need something very practical for kids, pets or heavy daily use

  • Prefer to change designs more frequently

  • Are furnishing rental units or secondary rooms

  • Want easier budgeting across multiple rooms

Caring for your handmade carpet

Handmade carpets can last for many years if they are looked after properly. Regular light cleaning and the right type of professional wash will help preserve the colours and fibres.

Rotate the carpet

Rotate the carpet every few months so the same area is not always under the heaviest traffic or sunlight. This helps wear and fading to be distributed more evenly across the rug.

Avoid soaking and harsh chemicals

Do not soak a handmade carpet in water or use strong detergents and bleach. These can cause colours to bleed, fibres to weaken and the backing to become damaged over time.

Vacuum gently

You can use a normal vacuum, but avoid rotating or beater bar brushes that can catch the fibres and fringe. Use a flat suction head where possible and be extra careful around the edges and fringes.

Blot spills, do not rub

If something spills, act quickly. Blot the area gently with a clean, dry cloth or paper towel to lift the liquid. Avoid rubbing, as this can push the stain deeper into the fibres and damage the pile.

When your handmade carpet starts to look dull or you notice stubborn stains, it is better to send it for a proper wash instead of trying very strong DIY methods at home. As a general guide, aim to have handmade carpets professionally cleaned at least once every 1-2 years, and more often if they are in high traffic areas or under dining tables.

Carpets look different in real life compared to photos. Colours, thickness and texture are much easier to judge when you can see the rug in person. In our showroom, we can lay options side by side so you can compare and decide with more confidence.

If you can, bring room measurements or a quick photo of your living room. Even a simple phone photo of your sofa and floor helps us suggest sizes and colours that fit your space.
